#1 DESIGNING A SMALL LIVING ROOM
A large living room is not for everyone. But that doesn't mean we can't make our small living room cozy!
It is essential to find a way to create space in a small living room. An empty corner that you don't actually do anything with has a function, for example by displaying and storing your books. Multifunctional furniture is very practical in a small home and there is plenty for sale in this area. Consider, for example, an extendable dining table, a sofa bed or a coffee table where you can also store things.
#2 DESIGNING A SMALL BEDROOM
Decorating a small bedroom can sometimes be a bit difficult. Your bed is the most important element in your bedroom, and you should certainly not compromise on this (even in a smaller bedroom) when choosing the right size bed. Make sure your bed is spacious and comfortable enough, and important for a small bedroom: also high enough. This way you can easily place practical drawers under the bed in which you can store all your things.
Choosing the right wardrobe is also important for a small bedroom. Make optimal use of the height of your ceiling and choose the highest possible cupboard, so that you can easily store all your clothes in your wardrobe. Also choose a slightly deeper cupboard, so that you can store even more! Use side tables as space winners, you can easily place them anywhere!
#3 PLAY WITH LIGHT & SPACE
A small home cries out for light! Light colors in your interior will only enhance the natural light that enters your home. Light colors reflect light, dark colors absorb it. All kinds of reasons to use as many light colors as possible in your smaller home! Create atmosphere with accessories in deeper and warm colors such as some cozy cushions or a hip industrial rug.
#4 USE PARTITION WALLS
To create the most spacious effect possible in the home, it is important to maintain overview and tranquility by dividing separate living areas. Don't immediately think about placing a wall, but use a room divider or beautiful one, for example cupboard to create separation in the room.
Plants or furniture are also a simple and easy solution to get the feeling that transitions in rooms have been accentuated without losing space. Put a sofa or armchair for example, arrange it in such a way that it forms a partition, or place some plants next to each other.
#5 THE USE OF GLASS & MIRRORS
Do you want to go big? For example, place a glass wall in the home instead of a brick wall. This way, the light shines beautifully throughout the entire home and you get the feeling of one large whole, while the living areas are still closed off.
The well-known trick that always works: placing a nice large one mirror industriple which makes the space appear optically many times larger.
An enormous wall-sized mirror can be placed in a strategic location, making the living space feel twice as large.
When placing the mirror, take the shape of the room and the light into account. Do you want to make the room appear wider? Then place a mirror against a wide wall. Do you want to make the room appear longer? Then place it against a narrow wall.
#6 FLOATING FURNITURE
Floating elements or shelves are extremely practical and perfect for a small apartment. For example, select beautiful shelves yourself and attach them to the wall, for example with metal supports: original and practical!
Many pieces of furniture can also be made floating - for example, if you make a TV cabinet floating and remove it from the floor, you immediately create more openness and space in the home. And it also looks chic and sleek!
A bookcase takes up a lot of space and you can replace it with various shelves and floating boxes. This way you immediately have an original storage system.
#7 USING YOUR FLOOR
The floor can contribute to how spacious and light your apartment looks. For example, using the wrong color or the wrong material can make the space appear much smaller. If you want to make the room look larger, use (almost) the same color floor as that used on the walls. This creates a spatial whole and furniture will appear to float.
Another useful tip is to extend the floor on one floor into different rooms as much as possible. If you gave each room a different floor, the space would appear visually smaller. Omitting skirting boards between the doorposts also gives a spatial effect.
#8 THE RIGHT LIGHTING
The correct use of lighting is essential in furnishing, but especially when furnishing a small home or small apartment. Not every home is blessed with large windows, so if you don't get a lot of natural light in your space it's important to take care of it good lighting. It is a good idea to opt for lighting on multiple levels, such as a ceiling lamp and a wall lamp, in combination with a beautiful floor lamp in the corner. The variation makes the small space appear optically larger.
#9 TRANSPARENT ELEMENTS
Transparent furniture and/or elements are the trick for a spacious interior. The more you see, the bigger the space seems. Transparent furniture is the perfect solution for this. Besides being very stylish, you also create an airy and chic look in your home.
For example, opt for a coffee table with a glass top, or a special transparent box as a coffee table as above. Besides looking beautiful, it is also very practical thanks to the storage space in the box!
#10 INTO THE AIR
The spatial look that you get after completing the above steps can be extended into your interior by choosing furniture pieces that stand on legs. Because the furniture rises slightly and the floor is visible, you visually create a more spacious effect. In addition, furniture on legs is also super hip and we see them a lot in the Scandinavian living style. A sofa on legs and a TV cabinet on legs do a lot for the space! Is there insufficient space to place a tall cabinet? For example, place some nice crates on top of each other: it looks nice and you can store a lot of things in it!
#11 ACCESSORIES
Accessories are the finishing touch in your interior, and a small space certainly does not mean that you have to make concessions when purchasing accessories. Subtlety is key when decorating a small home. Buy nice baskets or storage boxes so that your things can be stored neatly and stylishly. Accessories are not only beautiful, but also functional. A cozy candle here and there, and some beautiful cushions in bright colors: a personal touch and your own atmosphere in your home is very important, but keep it simple and orderly.
#12 CLEAN UP!
We humans are collectors and secretly have more stuff in our house than we think. Reorganize, declutter and throw away what you no longer need or use. For example, to a charity, the thrift store or neighbors who could probably use your things. Do you have trouble getting rid of things permanently? Then put the items separately in a box and store them elsewhere. After a year you will have a lot less trouble getting rid of these things!
#13 PLAYING WITH FORM
Boring, sleek, straightforward furniture can sometimes look boring in a small apartment. Therefore, play with different shapes to make the interior more exciting and playful. Think of a beautiful round lamp, or a cupboard with different layers and materials. One round table in a square space immediately makes the whole more playful and exciting. A sofa with round corners may also suffice.
#14 DO'S AND DON'TS

- Choosing furniture that is too large
- Fill the corners in the rooms
- Use furniture that is too rectangular
- Too many unnecessary accessories
- Using colors that are too dark for floors and/or walls
- Instead of height, go width

From photos of your loved one, to beautiful postcards or places you have been. The perfect balance in color, frames and shapes make the gallery wall a difficult part of the interior. In addition to frames, the current trend is to attach your records or photos to the wall using tape.
